After missing the No 2 bus to local to bus station, i borrowed money from The Hubby for cab far. Took a double decker Megabus to Toronto. Got a couple books at World's Biggest Bookstore, one for me and one for my dad's birthday. Got on Greyhound to Fort Erie. It was won by a filly Rachel Alexandra for the first one in 85 years.

And I missed the Kentucky Derby which was won by a 50-1 long shot Mine That Bird, a Canadian bred horse too. Watched the replay of this race and it was spectacular since the inside rail is hard place to navigate ( Read more... )

... Saturday is open for whatever and Sunday is lunch is downtown with out of towners and The Queen's Plate at 4:30 PM. Maybe call the folks in the evening.

So no Triple Crown winner this year. Da'Tara ran wire to wire, not an easy feat for 1.5 miles, and beat the favourite Big Brown. You could see Big Brown was not in full gear in the race by the half way mark. Shame really. So another year to go for us fans.

At roughly 6 PM EDST I will be plunked in front of the television to see if Big Brown makes American Horse Racing history by winning the American Triple Cup. He has the stamina but his foot problem may be his undoing ( Read more... )

My mom is ok but a bit overwhelmed by the cost of getting a new place set up after selling off all her furniture for the move to the retirement residence. I had to laugh when I told her that Pilmico Racetrack has a website if she wanted to know the time of the Preakness. Big Brown won the Preakness today. He made it look so easy. The next big horse race is the Belmont Stakes in Elmont New York. This may be the horse to take the Triple Crown home after a 30 year drought because he could run the 1 1/2 miles with energy to spare. I will be watching on June 7th.

The Good
The favourite Big Brown won for the extreme out side post position of 20. He ran a beautiful race for a horse that ha only run 3 or 4 times before. And the horse was still willing to go further.

The SadEight Belles, the lone filly in the race (the first filly in 20 years by the way), came in second but had to be put down then and there on ( Read more... )
